Grammar 101

I consider myself to be a bit of a grammar/spelling perfectionist. (I am a perfectionist in other ways too but that's for another post!)  I am one of those people who will be reading a blog, magazine, publication, church bulletin, book, etc, and notice any and all typos or use of incorrect grammar. I often wish I had access to an edit button so I could help out those poor people who may embarrass themselves by spelling a word wrong or using it incorrectly! So, imagine my shock and horror this morning when I realized the name of this blog isn't technically grammatically correct! The word "traveller" is really spelled "traveler". But, going to handy dandy dictionary.com, I discovered that "traveller" really is a word, it's just "chiefly British". Ha! So, maybe living in England 10 years ago affected me (and my grammar) more than I thought!

Oh well! For any of my British friends reading this, enjoy my usage of "traveller".... I'll be sure to throw in some British spelling words once in a while for your reading enjoyment!

P.S. I am now second-guessing everything I wrote in here....is typos really spelled like that? Does etc need to have a period after it? And what about the 1 space/2 space debate after a period?!

Just for fun: Google "grammar vigilantes" and find an interesting article on guys who are passionate about grammar and what happened when they went about fixing errors!

  1. Haha. The British spelling always messes me up in lots of ways as well... for the longest time I always thought these words were spelled, "Saviour" and "theatre".

My slightly educated guess/opinion would be that typos is spelled correctly, etc. needs a period, and one space after a period is good. But who am I to say for sure? :)
