Today is the day!! I start my big adventure this morning with a flight to Seattle at 8:45am. (I woke up at 4:40am on my own and decided to get up to clean up the house a bit and make sure I have everything I need!). I have 4 hours in Seattle this afternoon then fly to Los Angeles, where I'll meet up with my sister-in-law Caitlyn around 8pm. We'll have a couple hours to eat dinner and hang out then we board the flight to Auckland at 11:40pm. It's a 15 hour flight and we magically skip Wednesday on the way over! We arrive in Auckland on Thursday April 7th at 8:10am.
We'll get our rental car and start our adventure driving on the other side of the road and navigating unfamiliar roads! I found a cute hostel outside the hustle and bustle of Auckland that we'll check into and hopefully take a little nap. We'll spend a day and a half exploring Auckland then head over to the Coromandel Peninsula (if you've seen the movie Prince Caspian, this is the area the kids enter from the train station at the beginning). We'll make our way down to the north island in about 4-5 days then have a full week on the south island.
I have a duffel roller bag for my checked bag and a good sized backpack for my carry-on. I'm bringing some knitting projects and will have plenty to read, thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law Robin letting me take her Kindle with me!
I'll keep you posted on how the journey is progressing!
Yay! You are on your way! I can't wait to hear about the first couple day of travel :) I had no clue that scene from Prince Caspian was filmed there- I figured it was shot in England or Europe.
ReplyDeleteJust so everyone knows- they can now comment on this blog as "anonymous" and just sign your name in the comment so she knows who you are. Hope that's easier for everyone :)
