It's really happening!

My love and I bought some property about 20 minutes outside of Fairbanks just before we got married in 2007. We have dreamed about building a house out on it and this summer, it's becoming a reality! After going through many drafts of potential house plans, we have finally decided on one! We are building a garage with a 2 bedroom apartment above it this summer.

Here are pics of the pretty property and our progress so far:

Pad where the house is going to be built on our beautiful 10 acres in the woods

Part of our almost 600 foot long driveway!

We have a foundation!

Radiant floor heating in the garage (it'll be in both floors)

We have a cement slab!

Garage walls are up!

We're so excited, we have the start of our home!

There are definitely some good advantages to living in Alaska, where the days are long in the summer. Our good friend Micah is building the house for us and is doing a great job. He has a lot of experience utilizing the short building season and really knows his stuff! He assures me we'll be moved in by the end of September, that's coming up soon!

We think we have the siding and roof color picked out, we have to give a final answer by tomorrow. My love and I are going to have an IKEA date while in Portland next week to see what we want to do for the kitchen with cabinets and such. The decisions on countertops, flooring and cabinets will need to be made as soon as we get back from the Northwest. I'm so happy how things are progressing and I am already dreaming about nesting and getting settled in our home before Bobo* makes his grand entrance!

*In case you missed it, "Bobo" is our fun nickname for our son. Don't worry, it's no indication of what his real name will be!
